COVID -19 Vaccine Update: Canada

With widespread Covid-19, people should continue to invest in a precautionary measure by the public health department, a collective effort until the vaccines are rolled out. Dr. Theresa Tam’s, chief public health officer of Canada, statement assures the vaccinations will be available soon in the first quarter. The covid count surged in various provinces as a second wave with single-day new death cases in Manitoba and a high record of Alberta, Quebec, and Ontario cases.

Covid Count

In British Columbia, the lower mainland remains safe on the contrary to an increase in outer areas. Revelstoke, which was with zero covid cases from July till September, struck with a community outbreak of 46 new cases.
New covid cases in Quebec experienced an uptick in the surging covid graph. It fell into a worrisome situation with 48 new death cases report and around 2,000 new cases, which are the highest since the start of this pandemic. Quebec’s Premier François Legault announced the cancellation of Christmas plans, which were before allowed with a group of 10 people for five days from December 24 to December 27.

COVID 19 Update

Moving on to another province with the highest record, Ontario reported around 1,924 daily new cases this Sunday. This noted the widespread Covid-19 virus, with risk for the population living in a high-risk area like care homes and hospitals and the citizens living in the remote areas. Considering the spike in covid cases, Toronto went into lockdown for 28 days. The Saturday Farmer’s market, essential food retail, moved outdoors, but on December 5, health officials allowed markets to operate indoors under regulations.
New Brunswick noted only four new cases on Sunday from Saint John, Moncton, and Edmundston while declaring few zones to move back to the yellow zone recovery zone. Saint John will still be under the orange phase due to the province’s highest number of active cases.

Prince Edward Island, the smallest province in Canada, also reported four new cases this Sunday that imposed new public health measures after new COVID cases were reported on Sunday. The reported new cases were in their 20’s and 30’s, hence P.E.I premier Dennis King announced to all the citizens falling in the age group 20-29 years get tested irrespective of covid symptoms. Moreover, due to a hike in new cases, all social meetings will be suspended, and gathering places like libraries, gyms, and casinos will be shut down for a specific period.

Border Restrictions

According to Trudeau’s statement to CBC, given the new record in covid cases in Canada and other countries, he would continue with the non-essential traveling ban and the US’s border under partial closure. Thus, the border will be under restriction until the global situation for COVID falls more under control.

BioNTech/Pfizer Vaccine

The Germany’s BioNTech chief business and the chief commercial officer give a statement that the vaccine will be shipped within the time period of 24 hours of approval. He also states that they have already produced the vaccine, and upon approval, they will send the doses to Canada. Moreover, the health regulators are still examining three other vaccines by Jannsen, Moderna, and AstraZeneca.
