Driving In British Columbia

British Columbia is one of the most preferred provinces among students worldwide. Students traveling from different countries are often confused due to different driving license rules across provinces. Getting a driving license in British Columbia is quite easy so make sure to get one as early as possible to explore the mesmerizing views of beautiful British Columbia 

Can You Drive on Indian License in British Columbia?

1) If you are traveling to BC as a student there is some pretty good news for you. Students who have a valid driving license from their home country can drive in British Columbia without any restriction. One must be registered as a full-time student in a designated learning institute and have a valid student id while driving a vehicle. 

2) If you are visiting BC directly on PR or on Work Permit you can drive in British Columbia for up to 90 days without any restrictions after that you need to apply for a BC driving license.

3) If you traveling to BC on a visitor visa you can drive legally for more than 90 days if you are visiting as a tourist for more than 6 months.

Getting a new driving License in British Columbia 

Once a person has moved to British Columbia as a student or a foreign worker, one needs to have a BC license as soon as possible because the more experience on your BC driving license, the lower your insurance premium is when you buy a new or used car.

Booking a date for the knowledge test 

Download the ICBC app, study traffic rules, and prepare for the exam by answering questions on the app. Study material about knowledge tests is available on the ICBC app, and website, and the book can be purchased at no cost from the nearby ICBC Centre Once you are fully prepared book an exam On the ICBC app for the nearby exam center by paying the 15$ fee. You must score above 80% to pass the knowledge test and be eligible for the road test. Step 2 (Practice driving)

With your learner’s license, you can start practicing driving under the supervision of a fully licensed driver. You must have someone with a valid driver’s license in the passenger seat next to you at all times.

Step 3 (Booking a road test) 

After successful completion of knowledge students or Work permit holders who have driving experience of more than 2 years in India can directly apply for class 5 (full driving license) other students who have less than 2 years of driving experience need to apply for the class 7 road test. Upon successful completion of Class 7 test takers will be given a Novice License. Novice License holders can apply for a class 5 license after completing 24 months of safe driving
