Mechatronics

Technology is omnipresent these days. There is hardly any occupation that does not make use of technology. One really needs to be tech-savvy in today’s world in order to stay updated with the latest trends and there is an enormous rise seen in the technology sector. KPU offers a Mechatronics program which is a complete package to learn electronics, physics, and engineering. If you want to learn technology then this program is definitely worth it as it will open many job opportunities for you.

An Overview of Mechatronics

Mechatronics is the word fusion of “mechanical” and “electronics’’ and as the name suggests it is the practice of developing the skills of both mechanical and electronic engineering. People who are educated in mechatronics are responsible for making our daily life better by making items convenient enough to use. It is also known as Mechanical Engineering.

From phones to forklifts, mechatronics is part of human life and would not be able to function without it. We can also say that it is the heart of engineering, computers, mechanical systems, control systems, and electronic systems.

Career Prospects

Career opportunities that surround mechatronic training usually have the title of “Technician” but there are a lot of different types of technicians in every field.

  • Control Systems Technician
  • Customer Service Technician
  • Electrical Maintenance Technician
  • Electro-Mechanical Technician
  • Facilities Operator Field Service Technician
  • Maintenance Technician
  • Manufacturing Process Technician
  • Mine Technician
  • Plant Systems Technician
  • Production Operator Service and Installation Technician

According to Work BC, the job opportunities vary depending on what role you are into. Needless to say, the annual salary of these job positions also varies. For instance, chemical technicians make about $50,000 annually while civil engineering technicians make $70,000 annually. Anything else will fall in between this salary bracket.

WHY MECHATRONICS

As our dependency on technology is increasing day by day, likewise the need of machines and trained operators are also increasing. That’s how mechatronics kick in. Technicians are needed too to maintain the hardware. It is certainly the need of the hour.

Mechatronics at KPU

At KPU, you’ll master this unique but rewarding major in how to perform high-level tasks such as running diagnostics and analyzing data. The school also understands that hands-on experience is necessary along with theoretical knowledge. They provide experience in welding, metal fabrication, electrical wiring and much more.

Mechatronics at KPU is completed with applied research, product development, and commercialized solutions. One can’t deny the fact that real-world jobs will include more than just working with machinery. Adequate workers will also know how to problem solve and think critically.

Siemens Certificate

As you all are aware that Siemens is one of the world’s largest tech manufacturers. If you want to expertly operate technical machinery and effectively solve problems in systems, then you will need this certification which will qualify you to work in any mechatronic field. The training is based on engineers in Germany and Siemens is partnered with schools across the globe, one of them being KPU.

Admission Requirements

First, the applicants must meet the general Undergraduate Admission Requirements.

For applicants who are interested in the Mechatronics program you must also:

OR

  • A Red Seal Endorsement (RSE) from the list of approved RSEs. The list of approved RSEs can be found on the department website kpu.ca/trades/mechatronics

Why KPU

KPU guarantees you success. Their class sizes are not too big which allows their students to have more meaningful connections with their peers and industry experienced instructors. They are the best to train others who are passionate in the same field as them.

The program also provides you with a certificate along with the diploma. It can also be finished in a short span of time.
