The Government of Canada is expanding its preventive measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the country by adding another layer of protection to Canadians. Effective from January 07, 2021, every individual needs to take a test for COVID-19 before they board the flight to Canada, and the test result is required to be negative. According to the new rules, regardless of citizenship, all travelers who are five years or above must go through the COVID-19 test and provide the proof to the airline before boarding the flight to Canada. This test must be conducted within 72 hours of departure to Canada.
Please note that the test must be performed using one of two types of COVID-19 tests:
- Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
- Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP)
The announcement also says that there is no change in the ongoing vigilance of travel. Travelers are still required to fill in the information in the ArriveCAN app before boarding the flight as per the government rules and still go through a 14-day quarantine period. During the quarantine period, travelers are still required to update in the ArriveCAN app about their health condition if COVID-19 symptoms are showing up, on daily basis.
