Ways to celebrate British Columbia Day

It is that time of the year when the beauty of beautiful British Columbia is at its peak! Yes, it’s the summertime which is full of so many events and festivities. After celebrating Canada Day on July 1st, now is the time to celebrate British Columbia Day! BC day is celebrated on the first Monday of August every year. Every province has a different name for this day. It is a civic holiday and a long weekend across Canada. It is known by different names in different regions of Canada.

Alberta – Heritage Day

British Columbia – BC Day

Manitoba – Terry Fox Day

New Brunswick – New Brunswick Day

Nova Scotia – Natal Day

It is marked as a statutory holiday where people celebrate this day by relaxing with their families and friends! No matter what name is given to this day in different regions, the main idea behind it is to celebrate the heritage and culture of the place.

Across Canada, people celebrate the long weekend with parades, festivals, public gatherings, amusement for children, activities, camping, family-oriented events, and much more! 

How to celebrate this day?

Market vendors and food trucks will be available where you can enjoy various cuisines with your family and have a good time. It will be worth going!

  1. Hush Music Party

Enjoy music with your friends in Vancouver as many famous DJs will be playing.

  1. West Point Cycles

If you love biking, this would be the perfect activity for you. West Point Cycles have organized a supported group ride on British Columbia Day. It will be a good idea to take your friends on this ride. You can even pre-order your lunches there.

The start and end points of the ride will be at the parking lot in Campbell Valley Regional Park. The security briefing for the cyclists will begin at 9:45 am. The ride will go through Langley into Abbotsford. The breathtaking view of the mountains while cycling would be a cherry on the cake.

Timings are:

  • 9:15 am – Check-in begins at the Campbell Valley Regional parking lot
  • 9:45 am – Security and route briefing
  • 10:00 am – Roll out
  • 12:30pm – 3:00pm – Lunch break at the Yarrow Sportsfield.
  • 6:00 pm – Wrap up at Campbell Valley Regional parking lot

  1. English Bay Summer Fireworks

One of the most famous events that happen almost every year is the Honda Celebration of Light fireworks in English Bay, taking place in the middle of the summer each year. The fireworks took place on July 23rd and will also take place on July 27th and 30th. You can view the fireworks dazzling across the sky for free from the beach and surrounding area or can also view them from ticketed areas.

The top places to watch them are the Concord Lounge at the Inukshuk, the Scotiabank Lounge, and the English Bay Grandstand. All these venues are ticketed, licensed, and have front-row seats!

Apart from these, you can take your family and friends to parks, water parks, amusement rides, gardens, and beaches and celebrate your long weekend! Wherever you go during the daytime, make sure to wear sunscreen as it is going to be a warm weekend! Be careful of the heatwave and carry a bottle of water or water sprays wherever you go!
